Recap

I'm back in the USA!

Spain was incredible and after going to Barcelona I've got even more pictures and stories. There's too much to share everything right now, but two highlights for me were La Sagrada Familia which was mind blowing, and a Picasso museum that was mind... bending? Or possibly mind contorting? I loved it! I'm amazed at how incredible of a painter Picasso was at such a young age. It makes it all the more interesting to see that he chose to paint in a very different way when he was older.

It made me happy when I noticed this painting and recognized that it was inspired by another painting I also like, Las Meninas! Picasso first saw the original painting when he was 14!

And here's La Sagrada Familia!

The craziest thing about the whole experience was knowing that I wasn't wearing a VR headset—it was all real!

What’s next?

I'm happy to say my mental health has been a lot better recently! Therapy has been very helpful and I'm still excited to share more of what has helped since I know a lot of others struggle with mental health as well. There's still progress to be made, but we're moving forward!

Still, in some ways it feels a lot has happened in the last year.

  • I've been recovering from ACL surgery for over a year now
  • I quit my software job to start my own business
  • I found out what I really needed that extra work time for was getting help for my mental health
  • I went back and forth 1000 miles between Florida and Pennsylvania several times
  • I traveled to 4 foreign countries: Taiwan, Japan, Spain, and Germany! (6 countries if you count the Korea and Hungary airports)
  • I spent a month or two sleeping in a tent
  • I stayed in over 25 different airB&Bs
  • And I learned a lot about people, relationships, myself, creating a business, and a thing or two about life in general.

All that is to say that I'm ready to slow down a bit. I'm not planning on slowing down chasing my dreams, but after this month I'm going to put myself into a more stable position to get into a solid routine and figure out my next steps before I start sprinting again. You can bet it's still going to be a fun ride! And—since I'm slowing down a bit—I'm planning to help you join the ride a bit more. More news to come as we get a bit deeper into 2024!

Dream Life Insight The problems with perfection Hi Reader! For a long time I was proud of my perfectionism. I wore it as a badge of honor—waving it before the world with a smile as I said something like, “I know it’s not good to be a perfectionist, but I just can’t help it”. Both phrases in that statement were a stretch—I could have been less of a perfectionist if I had really believed it would help me. Are you a perfectionist too? If you’re like me, it’s hard to change when you don’t...

Hello Reader! And welcome back for the third and final article in my series on awareness and strategies for depression! Previously, I gave background on what depression has been like for me and I shared the first strategy—internal family systems (IFS)—that has been changing my life. Today we’re jumping into the second strategy that has helped me make genuine progress in feeling less depressed and more emotionally resilient over time. (Disclaimer: I’m not a psychologist. What I’m sharing is...
