Recap

I've been in Europe for a couple weeks and I would say it's been "fire", but it's actually been pretty cold! Maybe I'll stick with saying Spain is really "cool". :)

Oh, and I also went to Germany!

Spain

Germany

These pictures were all taken in Frankfurt. The Christmas market there was awesome!

That's all for Spain and Germany this week! Here's a quick insight for the holidays before we head into the new year!

Insights on lights

This year I realized once again that I love lights. It doesn't matter whether those lights are on the tallest Christmas tree I've ever seen, or on the tackiest Christmas plant I've ever called a tree.

Light clarifies our direction, removes fear of the unknown, and is frequently accompanied by warmth. I've been trying to share light, clarity, peace, hope, and love with others for a long time. I've wanted to be a light. In a world that often feels dark I sometimes felt that if I wasn't able to be there for everyone in my life that it would be my fault if they weren't happy.

I've learned in the last few years that it isn't my responsibility to help everyone. This task is impossible and has a weight that crushes those who try to take it on. It was also arrogant of me to think I was the person who would make or break the happiness of everyone I was close to. My intent was to help people, but at times I only inflated my own sense of importance and missed opportunities to empower others by believing in their ability to get through hard times.

I do still believe I can be a light. The difference now is that I recognize I'm not the only light in the lives of the people I love. For those I can help it is usually not my duty—but rather my privilege—to be there for them. What a joy it is to know I made a positive impact on even one person's life when I wasn't ever required to do so. As I get better at seeing my life this way I feel less like a failure and more like someone who goes above and beyond to help the people I care about.

I hope you're able to relax and feel joy in loving and serving people you love! I know you can also be a light!

What’s next?

My next update is going to have a LOT more pics and stories from Spain and Germany. I hope I can give you a small taste of what it's like here! I think we can learn a lot about life and helping others as we look to other cultures all over the world!

Take some time over the holidays to follow us on your favorite platforms! We're going to start posting regularly on social media in 2024! #NewYearsResolution!

Thanks for reading, Reader! And especially thank you for being a part of our community. Best wishes until our next insight!

Ps. If you're still in a Christmas mood you can check out this short story I wrote several years ago. It's called, Young Aoki's Christmas, and it's my favorite piece of writing that I've done up to this point in my life :)

Dream Life Insight The problems with perfection Hi Reader! For a long time I was proud of my perfectionism. I wore it as a badge of honor—waving it before the world with a smile as I said something like, “I know it’s not good to be a perfectionist, but I just can’t help it”. Both phrases in that statement were a stretch—I could have been less of a perfectionist if I had really believed it would help me. Are you a perfectionist too? If you’re like me, it’s hard to change when you don’t...

Hello Reader! And welcome back for the third and final article in my series on awareness and strategies for depression! Previously, I gave background on what depression has been like for me and I shared the first strategy—internal family systems (IFS)—that has been changing my life. Today we’re jumping into the second strategy that has helped me make genuine progress in feeling less depressed and more emotionally resilient over time. (Disclaimer: I’m not a psychologist. What I’m sharing is...

On April 11th I'm launching my first live online course—"How to stop feeling overwhelmed and remove burnout from your life forever!" This is the culmination of years of study, trial & error, and over $1000 spent on books and therapy. I'm really excited about this because I know I can help people transform their lives like I have my own. Also, if you sign up in the next...
